Here are all of the things that are must haves this winter!

blogmas: entry 16 "change of plans"

Today I have no inspiration I simply don't know what to post.
I want to write a poem but I don't know the words, I want to share some photos but the sun is going down, I want to pour my heart out but my heart isn't overflowing, I want to share something I am really proud of.
I want to create a post I love.
But today isn't just one of those days and instead of not posting at all
I have decided to stick to my word and post everyday.
I started this daily December posting because I wanted to feel inspired and I also wanted to share it as a new year/Christmas countdown.
But lately I haven't had many ideas of what to post so I have decided to keep doing blogmas and instead of continuing to the last day of the month make it end on Christmas eve.

That way it will be more of a Christmas event instead of a month thing.
I have loved doing this challenge because it has gotten my mind to open and get posting more
plus I have realized what posts make me the happiest to share!

But since I have been feeling very Christmassy lately this blogmas is going to be Christmas themed!
Get ready for eight more days of Christmas themed posts that will get you feeling festive!

Thank you for reading this post!
It wasn't the best but now I am feeling better and ready to start posting Christmas content!
Come back tomorrow for an awesome post!

blogmas: entry 15 "falling into place"

My mind is a tangled whirl of thoughts.
I try to organize and go through them and toss some away.
But you cannot organize this chaos
you just have to join this game and play.

I used to feel overwhelmed by the war that is going on in my head.
I used to try and stop it but I've learned to except it instead.

Now as the winter's air is brisk, and cold
Things are falling into place like a story that has never been told.

I feel an empty space in my mind waiting to be filled.
filled with excitement, a rush of growing skills

I feel the start of something new on its way to me
and I feel ready standing here this time I will not flee.

blogmas: entry 14 "i love... a poem"

I fall in love with details,
the way one ties their shoelaces or has a habit of saying the same thing.
I love the details that create a person, because that is how we are drawn to people and that is how we make friends.
not by their labels but of what makes them, them.

I love the earth.
the way the earth is shaped, the sun coming through trees, the stars hanging above in the sky.
I love the feeling of the unreachable, the feeling you cant have something.

I love when someone loves themselves.
because I know it is hard to do.

I love anything anyone has ever tried.
I love the sound of cats purring and listening to my family talking as I fall asleep.
I love watching the sky turn from orange, to purple and then to pink.
I love the way someone smiles when they hear their favorite song.
I love the feeling of confidence when you know that you are great.

I love the world because it is bad and it is good.
I love the effort and the heartache the sadness that keeps going on
I love that the sadness leads to happiness and then creates a song.
I love typing my feelings into words, and sharing them as art.
I love the challenges and the things that can be hard.
I love the light and the darkness and the feeling of growth
And I love that everything exists that is what I love the most.

blogmas: entry 12 "4 steps to set goals and stick to them"

As we experience the last month of the year and another fresh start comes closer I have been thinking about how I want to start the new year and what my goals will be.

I watched an awesome video by the amazing Tessa Violet where she talked about setting goals and sticking to them. (sorry not sure which video it was, but check out her channel because they are all great!)
It inspired me to write this post because setting goals is a great thing to do and keeps you on track...
if you do it right, so I complied my 4 steps on how to make goals that you will follow through with.

blogmas: entry 9 "getting over someone"

Today's post's theme is "Getting Over Someone"
Getting over someone is really hard, it is difficult to distance yourself from someone who used to be close. But if you are in a toxic friendship/relationship with someone and it isn't allowing yourself to be happy and free to do whatever you want then it is important and necessary.
Sometimes you have to experience a little sadness to see the sun again.
I have really learned that that is so true.
It is just like the weather one day I will feel sad and the air is gloomy and dark, but then the next day it is almost always a bright, sunny day!

If you are going through that darkness and feeling lonely right now.
Here are some tips on how to get over someone:

Thursday, December 8

blogmas: entry 8 "future"

This night I lay on the ground, looking up at the sky.
The stars sprinkle the surface like glitter, blinking by
They are beautiful and I sit and stare
but only those in darkness can see them and there is sadness there.

Sunday, December 4

blogmas: entry 4 "you are worth it"

hello, its me.
elly.
you may not know me or you may
you are a person
maybe you love the sound of the rain, maybe you dream of places afar, maybe you drink your tea in a mug with a big handle,
maybe none of that is true, maybe you are the exact opposite
whoever you are, whatever you do,
I just want to say I love you.

a growing spark

hello everyone!
The last couple of days have been tough.
I, like many have been both in shock and in sadness about the election results
It is horrifying that so many people in the world believe and stand for what the winning candidate says. I cant even fathom how the cruel things he states are considered okay in someone's mind.

Wednesday, November 9

embrace our differences

Today I was not planning on writing this post
I actually had a completely different post prepared
but, as this day has played out I feel the need to express my opinion and ideas

FINDING YOUR PASSION

Hello Everyone, And welcome back to Sererenity.
This past month I have created and held a project called Aspiring August.
With posts about...
and now today Passion

Today is the last day of August- Which is sad because goodbye summer, but it also means the start of September and all things fall! (yay!)
Today is also the last day of Aspiring August-
(What! Already?)

This project has been so much fun to put on and I hope you all enjoyed it as well!
Also, Which post inspired/you liked the most?

Before we start hopping into September though, Here is the last awesome Aspiring August post!

Here are the steps to finding what you are passionate about and creating a life around that.

1 LIST THE THINGS THAT YOU LOVE TO DO

The first thing to do is list out all of the things that you love to do,
Whether it's drawing, helping people, or simply playing with cats list everything you do that makes your heart happy!

2 LIST WHY

Now lets get into the details, Next to each thing you love, list why you love doing it.
What is the purpose?
Why do you love it?

3 WHAT POPS OUT?

Is there any certain thing that pops out of the group?
Maybe there isn't really anything that pops out and feels "right"
Here is what to do from there:

- Narrow it down to three or five things that you love the most.
Things that are a little bigger and seem more like a goal.

- Dig deeper with those things and Narrow it down to two.
Say you have things on your list like drawing, photography, and fashion design.
Find the thing that feels the biggest and best choice.

- Choose the best job
Some things you can love and feel passionate about but maybe they aren't very suitable for a job.
Choose one of those two things that feels like the best job and the best path.
And there you have just found your "passion"

4 HOW THINGS FIT

List out your main thing.
Then going back to your first list write out how those things can be added into you life.
Like if you have fashion design as your main thing.
Then things like drawing and photography can be added:
drawing is a great hobby for a designer and it also is helpful for design sketches
and photography is great for snapping photos of your designs.

5 RPM PLAN

I watched this great video, where Tony Robbins talked about a thing called the RPM plan.
An RPM plan is an awesome way of planning things and getting things done.
Check out the video here!
This plan is super helpful for keeping yourself on track!

6 GET TO WORK

And the last step is to get to work and make that dream life a reality!
You got this!

challenge of the week

Find your dream job/life and make it a reality using these six steps

ASPIRING AUGUST HAS COME TO AN END,
BUT THAT DOESNT MEAN THERE ISNT MORE AWESOMENESS TO COME!

COME BACK EVERY WEEK FOR ANOTHER FANTASTIC POST!

interviews

1. HOW HAVE YOU GROWN OVER THE LAST TWO YEARS?
I've grown so much by being made aware of the things going on in our world today. I can thank the internet for bringing so many unspoken societal issues into the spotlight.

2. HOW HAS SOCIAL MEDIA SHAPED YOU INTO WHO YOU ARE TODAY?
Social media has been a huge part of my life, as it is with many people nowadays. I love the culture surrounding memes and vines. My humor has definitely been shaped by it (ha!). But really, social media has had large negative and positive impacts on my life. Once I began going to school junior year, I became much more self-conscious of myself, my personality, and my appearance. I believe that social media contributes to this, especially with women, as we are constantly comparing ourselves to other people's highlight reels. I know, I know, this saying gets thrown around a lot, but it is so true. I respect and appreciate the big names on social media who are advocates for being real and loving yourself for the way you are. I hope to one day be that type of influencer on social media.

3.WHERE WOULD YOU SAY YOU ARE IN THE JOURNEY OF FINDING YOURSELF?
Wow, I am just at the beginning. I love discovering more about myself and throwing myself into new experiences, good and bad, to learn more about me. I am constantly learning new things. I think it's so important to get to know yourself, especially as you get older and begin developing deeper relationships.

4. WHO IS YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION?
This is so tough, and I honestly don't know. I am inspired most by people who present new ideas into the world and who are true to themselves.

5. WHAT DO YOU EXPRESS YOURSELF IN?
I express myself through words, music, and art (also sometimes through sarcastic jokes).

1. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF TWO YEARS AGO? HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOURSELF NOW?
Two years ago, I was public schooled. I was really shy and kind of depressed most of the time. I was always nice to my "friends," but they were never nice to be back.
Now that I am homeschooled today, I have changed in some of the best ways possible. I have opened up to people and I haven't been so shy. I have met some of the coolest people and it turns out that I talk to them a lot. I really love how I have changed to be a wonderful young lady.

2. WHERE/WHO DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION FROM?
I find inspiration in a lot of places like art, music, my writing, or just about anywhere. I love browsing Pinterest for inspiration and I love listening to inspiring artists like One Direction, Forever in Your Mind, Taylor Swift, and so much more. Trust me, the list could go on forever!

3. WHAT IS EXPRESSION?
Expression to me is showing how you feel to the world in the best way possible. Whether you are making a stunning art project for school or dancing like nobody is watching to your favorite song, you are expressing yourself in a way that you can't even explain.
Also, if you look up the definition to expression, it says, "the process of making known one's thoughts or feelings." Always keep the definition in mind.

4.WHERE ARE YOU IN THE JOURNEY OF FINDING YOURSELF?
Honestly, I still think that the journey of finding myself still has a long way to go and I think that is okay. I would really like a long adventure rather than a short car ride.

5. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF?
I think my kindness and me being quirky. I think that everybody is unique and they should love something, and everything, about them. I love how kind and considerate I am to everybody and I love how I am quirky. Sometimes, me being quirky makes me laugh!

1.LOOKING BACK TWO YEARS AGO, HOW HAVE YOU GROWN?
Two years ago I was 15 years old, a bit awkward, a bit edgy and I had just started using Instagram and blogging. Flash forward to present me: I'm 17 years old, still awkward, less edgy and still using Instagram and blogging. I reached my first thousand followers that year and really started getting into fashion and photography. Since then, I have definitely developed more of my style, become more confident in myself and care less of what others think of me.

2. HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
WOULD YOU DESCRIBE IT?
A bit in the middle, really! My style consists of what makes me feel comfortable with my personality thrown in. Sometimes it's a bit casual and simple, other times a bit more crazy. But cool socks are always a must.

3. WHERE DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION?
Inspiration is honestly all around us! From books we read, movies we see, people we see on the streets, photos we consume via the internet... I find that it's hard to be inspired.

4. WHAT HAVE YOU DISCOVERED THROUGH BLOGGING?
A lot more about myself. I've learnt more about giving less of a crap what others think of me, that pursuing your hobbies take a lot of time and energy, that this is what I really, really like doing. It's really shown that I need a creative outlet in life (especially with school) and that photography/fashion/writing/editing/whatever is pretty darn fun.

5. WHERE WOULD YOU SAY YOU ARE IN THE JOURNEY OF FINDING YOURSELF?
The teenage years seem like a crazy roller coaster and I feel like I'm constantly finding more and more about myself. But I can't be naive and say that, today, I am the person I will be for the rest of my life. Because wouldn't that be boring? I hope when I'm seventy I'll still be discovering new quirks and hobbies.

1. WHERE WOULD YOU SAY YOU ARE IN THE JOURNEY OF FINDING YOURSELF?
Truly I'm not sure. I am still a kid and I don't know what I want to do with my life (one of my pet peeves is when people ask me what I want to be when I grow up because I have no idea). But I am not at the beginning of my journey either. I do have passions. I love blogging and a lot of other stuff. I know that I like that so I have found myself in that department. I'm not sure where I am exactly but I am taking some big steps.

2. HOW HAS BLOGGING HELPED YOU GROW, AND HAS IT?
Blogging has helped me grow in so many ways. I have learned more about blogging then I have learned about any subject (that I actually wanted to learn about). It is truly one of my passions. I learned how to put my thoughts into words. I have also learned to be less shy and to say what I am thinking. It has definitely helped me grow as an individual. I have learned how to make friends and how to talk to people online. I have grown and I would say I grew in a good way.

3. WHERE ARE YOU MOST HAPPY?
Where am I most happy. Wow. This is a kind of hard but interesting question. I am happy in many places and situations. I am happy when I am typing away on my computer. I am happy when I am singing into a microphone. I am happy when I am acting on stage. I am happy when I am talking to my friends. I am happy in many many places. I can't choose just one.

4. HOW HAVE YOU GROWN OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS?
Well I have grown physically. Haha. And yes I have also grown emotionally. I have become more fit with myself and my ability's. I found stuff I truly like and people I adore. I would say I have grown quite a bit. Also just 2 years ago I was pretty much internet dead. That has definitely changed.

5. WHAT DO YOU FIND INSPIRATION IN?
Like for life or blogging? I find inspiration all around me. In my life, on the web, on the sidewalk. A lot of times I find inspiration from awesome bloggers (like you miss Elly). An also from what I am just doing that day.

1. HOW HAVE YOU GROWN THROUGH BLOGGING?
Back in my preteen years, my second oldest sister loved to write, and I loved and looked up to her a lot, so I thought I was a writer. I wrote stories and I loved them, until I realized that when people told me they were hilarious, they meant it in a way that I eventually received as hilariously awful. After this realization, I wrote off writing as something I just couldn't do.
Fast forward a few years and I am going through some very difficult situations, I don't know how to handle them or if I even want to. As a last ditch effort, I started writing again. Not stories, more like small poems, not really poems, just pieces, I guess. This was such a huge way for me to cope, and eventually I started sharing some of that writing on my blog (and eventually Instagram).
What I realized was that I was not alone, my writing was relatable, and blogging was a way for me to share that. So I would say that blogging, in a way, gave me an invaluable gift; a way to cope with the hard parts of the journey I am on, and a way to share it with others, to let them know that they are not alone, to validate what they are feeling, and not to write it off. To let them know that they are precious and loved and valuable, even when they feel like trash. I have been there, you will get through.

2. WHO WOULD YOU SAY YOU WERE TWO YEARS AGO?
Two years ago I was confused, afraid, alone, depressed, frustrated, angry, tired of pretended. I was at the point where I would start wearing a mask every day so that people would stop asking if I was okay. I was headed quickly to the days where I would sit still for hours wondering why I was living this life, wondering how I could not live it anymore, and wondering how heavy the consequences would be. I was ready to be done, before I had even really started.

WHO WOULD YOU SAY YOU ARE NOW?
To say that I have it figured out would be a lie; you will never have anything figured out. Anything can happen, anything can change. Anything will happen, anything will change. You can't count on anything of this world, it will not satisfy.
Despite that, I am in a good place. I have reconnected to my Lord and Saviour, and that has been the best decision I have ever made. This year has probably been the hardest, even with my past, but this time, I know that the Lord of Lords loves me and is on my side, helping me. I have come a long way with my depression and anxiety, and though I have not completely got a handle on it, I do know better how to deal with it.
I'm learning so much about trust, something I have always struggled with, and how to love myself; something I have never really truly done.

3. DISCOVERY THAT HAS CHANGED YOU THE MOST?
God. Hands down. He has changed my life. Without Him, I am absolutely nothing. There is nothing in this world that can compare to even the slightest bit of Who He is.

4. WHERE WOULD YOU SAY YOU ARE IN THE JOURNEY OF CREATING YOURSELF?
I will never find myself fully, I have contented myself with that, but I would say that I have come a long way. I am happy with who I am, for once in my life, and for where I am. I have been through hell, but I got through, knowing that it can happen again, and ready for that because I know Who I belong to. I am excited for the future, while aware of my past, but doing my best to live fully in my present.

5. HOW DO YOU PERCIEVE GROWTH?
Growth is struggle. They absolutely go hand in hand. You will not grow if you don't put yourself out there. You will not grow if you do not have a chance of losing something. You will not grow if you have an easy time of it. Growth happens through change, through perseverance, through struggles, through pain, through being raw and real. Growth will happen, but you have to be willing to do whatever it takes

CHECK OUT SILENT SHADOWS HERE!

1. LOOKING BACK TWO YEARS, HOW HAVE YOU CHANGED?
To look back two years and then compare that time to today, I become humbled. I used to be a shy, timid thing, vastly afraid of the world and the people in it. Several people in my life had abandoned or hurt me, and I felt like I was paralyzed in a whirlwind of anxiety and fear.
Now I am a new person, much more myself. I work through the scary things, occasionally make dinner, and even drive on the highway by myself. My hair is shorter.
I've changed a lot - both in who I am, how I see things, and where I'm going.

3. WHAT IS THE BIGGEST STRUGGLE THAT YOU HAVE FACEDS, SO FAR?
I've faced a lot of hurdles, but the biggest one that's looking me in the face right now is college. I've been homeschooled my whole life, so transitioning to something outside my comfort zone (read: house) sounds a little bit... intimidating. This is the next step to standing on my feet, #adulting and becoming my own person. For some reason, this scares me.
I've been assured that it's okay to take it one step at a time, but it seems like all my friends have their lives together. They're moving out, starting classes full-time or even balancing a job with everything else. I feel like I should push myself. To do as they do and plunge in. But I've always been true to myself. Only moving with the current of change when I'm ready.
I will say that college looks better with each passing day. I found a major I'm excited for. I have a few friends going to the same college I am, so I'll have some ties to keep me down to earth. And I have my family to keep me sane and accountable. ;)

3. HOW DO YOU LOOK AT GROWTH?
In myself, I look at it from ahead. I'm too close to my own journey to see my progress, so my brain can only understand that there's been growth when I can see that it's already been established.
In others, I see it in random moments. Little boys holding the door open, people you pass by every Sunday randomly opening up to say "Good morning," the development of graffiti downtown.
In perspective, I see growth as a painful necessity. We would be stagnant pebbles on the beach if we did not have waves of change. And though it sometimes feels like we're drowning, there's always time between the receding wave and the approaching to catch your breath.

4. WHAT/WHO HAS HELPED YOU GROW?
My family has definitely helped me grow, especially my mom. She has been holding my hand and letting me cry on her for all the years of my life. My youth group has pushed me out of my comfort zone - in a good way. Blogging and writing are outlets for all my tangled emotions. My Lord Jesus is the only reason I even get through my days.
(Special shout out to Nutella - for not minding that I so often stab you with a spoon.)

5. WHERE WOULD YOU SAY YOU ARE IN THE JOURNEY OF CREATING YOURSELF?
I'll be honest. My initial response to this question was:
Nowhere. But that's only what it feels like on occasion.
I struggle to answer this because I want to put a numerical value on myself and say something like I'm 63% there. But there is no number to signify where I am. There only is. So I'm going to take this long winded reply to say I am still on the journey and I am getting closer to who I am each day.

TIPS TO LIVING A HAPPIER LIFE

Hello beautiful people!

This weeks post is all about happiness!
Happiness; smiling for no reason, laughing at a funny joke, reading a good book, or being with someone you love.
Little moments that make your heart feel like its soaring!
We all love those moments but of course there are times when we are feeling down.
So here are my Tips on Living a Happier Life.

1. SMILE

Smiling actually puts you in a better mood.
Next time you are in a slump fake a smile until the smile becomes real!
It may feel silly but it really works! Make yourself get out of that bad mood!
Smile and march on with your day, Whatever you put your energy and focus on thrives.
Put all of your energy onto having a good, positive look on life,
instead of excepting that you are down.

You got this! Smile, and look at the good things that have ever happened!

2. DO THE LITTLE THINGS

Do the little things that make you happy! Take a moment to step back and have fun!

Here are some ideas of fun little things

drink a warm drink while reading your favorite book
bake a cake or cookies
paint a pretty picture
organize your purse and wallet
take artsy photos of books, makeup, food, and things
call or text a friend
listen to music

3. TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF

Take some time everyday to take care of yourself, Because you are worth feeling clean and well taken care of.
Bath, Clean your skin, brush your teeth, do your hair, pick out a cute outfit!
Put a little more effort into how you are presenting yourself.
Never underestimate a good outfit on a bad day, It really helps and makes you feel better!

4. DONT EVER HOLD BACK

If you love something or you feel happy don't hold back,
Go full swing and love it to the extreme! Don't hold back the good vibes!
Whatever energy you put into the world that same energy will come back to you!
Get inspired, Smile often, and love with all of your heart!

challenge of the week

For the rest of the week smile whenever you are feeling down.

GIVE YOURSELF SOME LOVE

Hello everyone!
I am so glad that you all enjoyed the last Aspiring August post "Saying Goodbye to Negativity"
This weeks theme is "Loving Yourself"
Coming to terms with yourself and loving yourself can be a very hard and bumpy road to take,
Here is my inspiration and motivation on learning to love yourself!

1. YOU ARE WORTH IT.

The first and most important step in loving yourself is to know that
you. are. worth. it.
You are worth the work.
You deserve good friends. You deserve good care. and you deserve to love yourself.

It is okay to love yourself.
You are a beautiful person with a beautiful heart, brain, and body and you deserve to be treated like a queen/king.
Whatever it takes to make yourself happy and however much work it takes to love yourself.
Just remember that you are worth it.

2. RESPECT YOUR STORY

Look back on a few years from now, Look at how much you have grown.
Even if it is just a little growth it is amazing because you are reading this right now and you are still growing. Your story is such a beautiful one and it does not deserve to be judged especially by you.

What have you accomplished in the last two years? Where were you then and where are you now?
It may be just a small change or it may be a big change but for whatever change and for whatever reason you are still here growing and improving and doing it for you.

Give yourself a hug!
It may seem silly but still do it. Give yourself a hug for what you have overcome and what you are going to overcome, give yourself a hug for what you are going through and what you are fighting.
Give yourself a hug for being you.
Look back on your journey, look forward to your journey, look around at your journey.
And respect that whatever place you are trying to reach.
Know that you will get there, it may take time,
But you can do this.

3. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL NO MATTER WHAT

You are such a beautiful person.
Loving and feeling confident in the way you look is such a hard thing to find.
In the beginning of this year, I wasn't very confident in the way I looked or dressed.
Of course there are times when I don't feel extremely confident now, but I feel like I have really improved and grown to like the way I look. And you can too.

Once you have grown to knowing that you are worth it and you respect yourself.
Loving the way you look becomes so much easier.

Because if you respect yourself you aren't going to think of yourself as "ugly"
Treat yourself as if you are your best friend!
You would never think that your best friend is ugly or that she doesn't look good in her clothes.
You would more likely compliment her and say she looks great!
So do that to yourself, Tell yourself that you look great and that you can rock anything!

Taking care of yourself is also a big thing in liking the way you look,
Eat healthy, exercise, bath, clean your skin, wash your hair, brush you teeth, stand tall, and dress well

You deserve to be properly taken care of and told you are beautiful.
Don't bully yourself and be hard on yourself.
Also, when working out never ever do it do lose weight just cause you want to look a certain way.
Do it because it is fun and it makes you feel good.

We all have different body types that we are born with and although eating healthy fruits and veggies and exercising is a great thing to do to stay fit,
Love your body know matter how it looks and stay fit to stay healthy, not to look good.

You are so beautiful, I hope you know and learn to know that.

4. EMBRACE YOURSELF.

And lastly, Don't take yourself too seriously!

Laugh at yourself, have fun, and don't worry of what others will think.

You can only keep yourself from thinking badly about yourself, but you cant control others,
which is okay! Because the only opinion that matters is yours!
