What is a Feminist?

Lately I have been thinking a lot about feminism. What it means to be a "feminist" and who can call themselves a "feminist". In this post I wanted to share my thoughts on feminism as well as share these photos I put together this weekend (photography by Celia Boldizar)

Feminism is a word that has been stereotyped and discussed a lot, people argue the meaning of being a feminist and the word has evolved into meaning different things.

here is what being a feminist means to me...

a feminist is a strong voice, someone who stands up for what they believe in and takes notice of how our choices effect everyone.
a feminist does not exclude anyone from the word "all"

I have also noticed when you label yourself as a "feminist" or really label yourself as anything.
People tend to find everything that you are doing wrong or that you are not doing.
Just because you call yourself something does not mean you are the picture of perfection in that area of work.
You can label yourself without having done everything there is to do.

I also feel feminism should not be something for only a small group of people.
Feminism is not just for women
Feminism is not just for a certain race
Feminism is not just for a certain sexuality
Feminism is for everyone.
We all have different experiences and views of the world and they all need to be represented.

"if we want change we ALL have to fight for it, not just those it will effect"

Something that feminism is often stereotyped to be is man hating or that woman should be higher then men which is the complete opposite of what it actually means.

It is not something that puts down men it is something that brings up woman so that the two genders are both equal.

Feminism doesn't effect just a certain group of people so feminism should not be open to just a certain group of people.

we are all people, we all feel happiness and sadness
we all want to feel loved and we all want to do our best
so lets not be hard on those standing up for what is right
and instead stand up with them
because we truly are stronger together

we should all accept each other and be kind to one another
we should all come together and fight for each other
instead of battling our own struggles and fighting in isolation
we should all do it together
we should all be feminists

  1. This was a wonderful post that I think could be helpful to so many people! Also cute pics. :)

  2. Beautiful photos! I think anyone who does not class themselves as a feminist is not embracing the modern age. A feminist is someone who desires equality for all, which should not be a modern concept, but unfortunately is.
